Frequently Asked Questions
Can I request a particular Quest Leader for a quest or party?
Yes! Please make note of it on the registration form which Quest Leader inspires your children the most, and we’ll do our best to accommodate it. Note that it is never guaranteed that your child will be placed with the requested leader or friend.
Can my five-year old attend?
Our summer quests and regularly scheduled programs are not open to five year-olds, as they often have safety issues playing with our Swashers™. We offer birthday parties for five-year olds, and can create special programs for your five-year old and their friends, as long as additional parents or other adults are there to assist the Quest Leader with safety.
Can my six- or seven-year old attend the full-day Dragon Quests?
Although they beg and plead for it, the truth is that most 6-7 year olds just don’t have the endurance to last all day long in our quests. Trust us – we’ve tried this with even the most enthusiastic of the younger Questers. However, we often recommend that the parents utilize one of our half-day Quest Leaders to babysit a half-day Griffon Quester. If you would like assistance finding someone to help with care after our programs, please let us know!
Can my younger sibling/friend quest with an older sibling/friend?
Yes, but technically it will be the other way around. We don’t allow younger children to quest with a group of older kids, but rather the older child can quest with a younger group. The older kids love being able to quest in their way without having to “ease up” because of a younger Quester. However, if siblings or friends that are far apart in age really want to quest together, the older one can join a younger group if that appeals to him/her.
Do you have before- or after-care?
No, but we can give you a recommendation on getting one of our awesome Quest Leaders to babysit before or after the program.
Is a babysitting service available for my kids after Griffon (half day) hours are over?
We can help you with finding a babysitter with one of our Quest Leaders, but that service is ultimately with the Quest Leader and is not a Renaissance Adventures program.
How can you teach non-violence by using foam swords?
What is your discipline policy?
Can parents join a quest to see what it’s like?
Absolutely. If you are curious about what a quest is like, you may join in for an hour or so during the day. Please talk to the Quest Leader and the office about what a good day or time is for the visit.
Where are your programs held?
We hold programs outdoors in Colorado’s beautiful public and mountain parks. Currently, we are hosting summer quests in West Boulder, South Boulder, Gunbarrel, Lyons, and Longmont. Click here for locations and directions.
For birthday parties, we come to wherever you would like to hold the party and entertain the troops there. If you are worried about inclement weather, we have a number of sites that we would suggest; some of which have a site fee associated with them.
How do I get to the questing site?
What if I’m late in picking up my child?
During each pick up, staff will stay late and wait with the children whose parents have not arrived. There is a ten minute grace period for picking up participants at the end of a program. The grace period begins at the time that the program is officially over. The late pick up fee is $4 for every five minutes or part of five minutes after the grace period. Late pick up, if arranged with 24 hours notice, drops to $2 for every five minutes or $24/hour. If a parent is more than 20 minutes late, all efforts will be made to contact the parent including calling the emergency numbers provided on the health form.
What should I bring or pack to your program?
Pack a backpack for your child with a hat for sun protection, a bag lunch with a snack, at least one filled water bottle (two for Dragon Quests), a light poncho, warm clothes (for School Days Off programs – we are outside as much as possible even in the winter!). Your child should be ready with sunscreen already applied as our staff is not authorized to apply sunscreen to a child. Hiking boots are recommended and give more traction outdoors, but sneakers are adequate. Sandals and Crocs are not acceptable footwear for this program due to the nature of the hiking trails. Please do not allow your child to bring candy or gum, pocket knives, electronic games, money, or anything of value to camp.
Do you have a Lost & Found?
Throughout the year we collect a large amount of items that are left behind by campers. We encourage you to write your child’s name or initials on clothing, water bottles, and any items that they might bring to one of our programs. If you believe that one of your child’s belongings may be in the lost and found, please notify our office staff promptly. We keep our found items at the office. RA promises to keep items in the lost and found for at least two weeks, and if there’s a name on the item, we will attempt to contact you about picking it up. After two weeks or several unreturned phone calls, the lost item will be donated to charity.
What are the Game Book and Worldbook? Do I need to buy one?
The Game Book is the essential book to play the live-action theater game Adventure Quest. It describes all the standard Careers, Races, Paths, Magic Styles, Equipment, Pets, and Powers. The Worldbook details the majority of the lands, realms, people, customs, and even some adventure rumors that are in the world of Adventure Quest. Neither is necessary to come to Renaissance Adventures programs, as we have support materials that the Questers use to understand their particular character’s powers and abilities. If you would like to purchase a book, it is suggested that the first book be the Adventure Quest Game Book. Please visit our Store page to buy one.
Do you do any quests during the weekends?
We can host a Birthday Party or special event during any weekend you schedule one for. Please click here for birthday party and special event information. In the past we have held longer Adventure Quest programs during the weekend, and if you are interested in having Renaissance Adventures run a program for one or several weekends in a row, please give us a call.
How do birthday parties work?
Should I tip for birthday parties or other events?
Tips are always appreciated by our Quest Leaders, but they are never expected. Our Quest Leaders are paid better than the average camp counselor.
Do you quest on those days when my child is not in school?
Yes! Almost every single weekday that there is no school in session, we run Adventure Quest. Please visit our School Days Off page for more information.
Can I pick up my child early from a quest?
While that’s certainly okay for occasional needs, we recommend that the child stay for the entire day and for the entire week that the quest is happening. Remember, Adventure Quest is an interactive story. Missing a few hours will mean that the Quester is out of the story for some time, missing out on crucial decisions! But then again, we all need to visit the doctor at some reasonable time of the day now and then…
How do I order a Swasher?
Swashers are ordered differently than our other Store items. We carry a limited supply of Swashers for sale at our office, so feel free to call if you have something in particular in mind. We can also take an order to craft a specialty Swasher, or one that that we aren’t currently selling. Again, please give a call to the office to learn more about Swasher sales: (303) 786-9216.
What is your Tax ID Number?
Are you planning on opening any more quests outside of Boulder?
Currently, we have summer quests running in Lyons, Gunbarrel, Longmont, and of course, Boulder. We can run an adventure anywhere throughout the Front Range area, given that we have at least five children registered for the program. In the past, we have run Adventure Quest for scout troupes, groups of friends, and youth groups in a variety of locations. Please call us if you have something in mind.
We host birthday parties, festival booths, and special events throughout Colorado, and if the winds of destiny blow to a certain location, our sights may be set for that place.
In addition, some Quest Leaders who have been with Renaissance Adventures for enough time to really get how we run our programs have the option to purchase a license. These “Independent Program Managers” run programs wherever they live, and we will update our Friends page with these goodly folke.
Finally, it is our honor to sell Franchises to entrepreneurs that would like to run our fun quests in their neck of the Great Hart Forest. If you are interested in opening up a camp or birthday service outside of Boulder County, Colorado, please visit our Franchisees and Licensees page for more information!
Are you affiliated with the online game AdventureQuest?
No. They are owned by Artix Entertainment and have absolutely no involvement in our programs, as we don’t have any involvement in their online games.
